The countdown is officially on. In Steamboat, November means one very exciting thing: ski season is almost here. Skis are coming out of storage, people are checking the mountain forecast, and we're all looking forward to hearing the lifts turn again. The 2026-27 season is scheduled to begin Saturday, November 21, and the anticipation is building across town.
Opening Day is the headline this month, but there's plenty more to enjoy in the Yampa Valley as we make the transition from quiet fall days to winter in Ski Town, U.S.A.
It's Almost Time: Steamboat's Lifts Start Turning November 21
Saturday, November 21 | Celebration begins at 7:30 a.m. | Lifts scheduled to open at 8:30 a.m.
There's something special about the start of ski season in Steamboat. The first chair, seeing familiar faces at the base, and the excitement of getting back on snow make Opening Day feel like a townwide celebration. Whether you're planning to make your first turns or just enjoy the atmosphere, this is a morning worth marking on the calendar.

Steamboat Resort has planned Powder Day donuts, coffee and mimosas while supplies last, the Champagne Powder Snow Bell countdown, and prizes around the mountain. The first 100 guests on the mountain are slated to receive a limited edition Opening Day shirt and Smartwool socks. The Steamboat Gondola, Wild Blue Gondola and Christie Peak Express are scheduled to begin seasonal service November 21, subject to conditions.
Of course, early season snow and lift operations are weather dependent. Check Steamboat Resort's official Opening Day details and the mountain report before heading out. Until then, let the snow dances begin!

If you're hosting, consider picking up ingredients or gifts from local shops and producers. If you're visiting, double-check restaurant and activity hours because holiday and seasonal schedules vary.

Make Some Room for the Quiet November Days
Not every great November afternoon needs an event. A quiet coffee downtown, a visit to the hot springs, or a walk along the Yampa River can be just as memorable. This is when you get to see how Steamboat feels between the big seasons, and for many of us, that's part of what makes living here special.
